Nyero rock paintings

The famous nyero rock paintings cling to being on of Uganda’s oldest attractions. Located in the eastern Town of Kumi Districts not far from Mbale district another tourism town famous for being the host to the scenic Mount Elgon one of Uganda’s prominent features. Nyero rock painting surprisingly tops the charts as being Uganda’s rock art.

The history of Nyero rock paintings dates as far as 1250CE. And their first write up was published in the year 1913, therefore was later concluded by the various researchers and geometric in nature, the nyero rock art is the  a unique art known as the a consistent art painting that consists of  red painting that spans through east , central and parts of south Africa,  having links or clues to the  early man life that was majorly hunting and gathering in  nature.

Their nature of nyero art is  attributed to the works of the for gatherers  and hunters that lived there way back, they currently linked to the Batwa people who  currently live in part of south western Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. They are said to have left Nyero present day because of the arrival of the Nilotic ethnic group of people who made them move to their current location.

The art / painting in Nyero   is an incentive to the rich and the diverse culture of the Teso people which they cherish dearly.

Nyero rock paintings is whole combination of rocks consisting of six rock structures  named nyero rock one , neyero rock two, nyero rock 3, nyero rock four, nyero rock five and nyero rock six.  Nyero paintings froms a substantive part of Uganda tourism where several travellers both locally  and internationally pass by nyero rock paintings to experience the art .   The route to nyero Is usually frequented by travevelers to destinations such as pian upe  game  reserve and Kidepo valley national park in the far  east Karamoja Area.
